Washington, D.C. – President Obama reasserted that he and his administration is ready to help ensure a smooth transition with President-elect Donald J. Trump. Additionally, President Obama repeated a number of times that Donald Trump will be the next President of the United States – as a reminder to the the protesters and anti-Trump groups moving to abolish the electoral college.
“The people have spoken. Donald Trump will be the next President, the 45th President of the United States,” President Obama mentioned. “Those who didn’t vote for him have to recognize that’s how democracy works. Thats how this system operates. Hopefully its a reminder that elections matter and voting counts.”

» BRIEFING  OVERVIEW

  • Obama stated that Donald expressed a great interest in maintaining four strategic relationships, including his commitment to NATO and transatlantic alliance.
  • President Barack Obama encouraged Americans Monday to give President-elect Donald Trump some time to get adjusted to the responsibilities of the presidency.

My goal is on Jan 21 America is in the strongest position possible and hopefully there is an opportunity on the next president to build on that.
– President Barack Obama

  • President Obama reassured the nation that when it comes to world affairs, the president is “obviously the leader of the executive branch, commander in chief and spokesperson for the nation.” However, the countless interactions and arrangements between our militaries, diplomats, intelligence officers among other government officials dictate our world policies and relationships.
  • The President reminded those who are upset that this is how the election system operates and that voting matters, citing that 43% of the country who were eligible to vote did not do so.

President Obama believes that Donald Trump is sincere and wants to be a successful president in wanting to move this country forward. “I think he’s going to try as best he can to make sure that he delivers not only for the people that voted for him, but the people at-large,” President Obama stated. President Obama also expressed that he was “encouraged” by statements on need for unity and his interest on being president for all people, as he mentioned during his acceptance speech.

He successfully mobilized a big chunk of the country to vote for him, and he has won. He is going to be the next president.
– President Obama

Although President Obama has called Donald Trump temperamental and unfit to become President of the United States, “I don’t think he’s ideological, i ultimately think he’s pragmatic in that way,” President Obama said. “I ultimately think he’s pragmatic in that way. That can serve him well as long as he’s got good people around him and he has a good sense of direction.”
