Authorities say a man fatally shot himself after he critically wounded his partner’s mother during a dispute at their Southwest Philadelphia home.
The victims were found around 11:30 p.m. Saturday after officers received reports of shots fired in the 2600 block of Holbrook Street. A barricade and police strandoff ensued, ending around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
Authorities say it began when the suspect assaulted his girlfriend during an argument at a bar. He then went home and began fighting with his girlfriend’s mother. That’s when, police say, the man pulled a gun and shot the woman in her arm.
Police say she managed to escape the home and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.
The man barricaded himself inside the home for several hours.
While barricaded, he turned on the gas in the home forcing authorities to shut the gas off on the entire block.
Philadelphia Fire Department, SWAT & police were on location for a number of hours.
