A convicted killer who is the subject of the Netflix series Making a Murderer filed a wide-ranging appeal claiming authorities used an improper warrant and that a juror was out to get him, among other things.

  • Although the water-cooler conversations about Netflix’s docs-series “Making a Murderer” may have died down in recent months but that doesn’t mean the gears of America’s judicial system aren’t continuing to turn
  • Zellner’s goal is not to bring another trial to court but to force the state of Wisconsin to turn around Avery’s conviction entirely, setting the man free
  • They used forensic science to convict Avery, and I’ll be using it to convict them of planting the evidence.” Zellner continues, “I think it’s pretty obvious that the blood evidence was planted, and the key was planted. The hood latch, I believe evidence was planted on the hood latch. Am I surprised this happened? Not at all. Do I think it’s good that the public knows it? Absolutely”
  • “Half of my exoneration cases have led to the apprehension of the real killer,” Zellner says. “I’ve probably solved way more murder cases than most homicide detectives”
  • Although those words are bold, they are backed up by some solid results
  • Zellner states she has “a couple” suspects they are looking into, including one specific man that is at the top of her list.
  • “I’d say there’s one, leading the pack by a lot,” she says. “But I don’t want to scare him off, I don’t want him to run”

THE  APPEAL

  • Kathleen Zellner has taken over the case of Wisconsin v. Steven Avery
  • Zellner is the country’s most successful attorneys specializing in wrongful convictions
  • Zellner hasn’t wasted any time with her new client and has filed an appeal that will be headed to court hopefully in the next year
  • Zellner has taken to Twitter to present a pretty steady argument, detailing many ways her client did not commit this heinous crime
  • Her latest tweet, alleges an “airtight alibi” regarding mobile phone records
  • At the original trial, the prosecution alleged that the Avery Salvage Yard was Haibach’s final location. This new alibi may point to her last destination, before disappearing, may have been elsewhere which would be a huge break in the case for the appeal

LATEST VISIT  TO AVERY

  • This tweet from February 19 depicts that Zellner visited Avery 5 times
  • Zellner has collected samples for new tests which indicate that there are new means of scientific evidence available
  • “The inevitable is coming,” Zellner stated. This may indicate a strong possibility for a successful appeal
