Hanover, NH – A Dartmouth College professor who was caught with an extensive collection of child pornography has been sentenced to 5 ½ years in prison.

    • J. Martin Favor, 49, was arrested last year at his Plainfield home after authorities said he uploaded four suspected images of child porn through his Tumblr account
    • Martin has been on paid leave since his September arrest & he pled guilty in March & resigned early July
    • Authorities executed a search warrant at Favor’s home where they seized computer hardware
    • Police discovered more than 500 videos and 300 images of child porn on his hard drive showing photography depict children, some as young as toddlers, being sexually abused
    • According to police, Martin had been collecting child porn for 15 years

The defendant’s prolonged evasion of accountability for this criminal conduct was ultimately undone by his decision to distribute illicit images through his account on the social media platform Tumblr. – Assistant U.S Attorney Nick Abramson

    • Martin was sentenced to five years and five months in jail followed by seven years of supervised released
    • His sentenced started on August 5
    • Defense attorney George Ostler argued that his client should only serve 36 months in prison and five years of supervised release
