  • Students at Orange Coast College are circulating a petition to have a professor fired for shaming Trump supporters.
  • The professor allegedly called students who voted for Trump “terrorists.”
  • The professor then asked students to stand if they had supported Trump so other students could see who these people were. “I see nobody standing, so I guess you’re too cowardly to admit it.”

Orange Coast, Ca. – Students at Orange Coast College are circulating a petition to fire Olga Perez-Stable Cox, the professor who called the election of Donald Trump “an act of terrorism” in an in-class rant.
She later asked students who voted for the New York City businessman to stand up so classmates could see who “these people” are, but no one did, leading Cox to call Trump supporters “cowards”. After the video went viral, the faculty called on administrators to pursue criminal charges against the student who recorded the video.
The professor has since received death threats. An email Cox received said, “You want communism, go to Cuba . . . try to bring it to America and we’ll put a [expletive] bullet in your face.”
The gathering led to a counter-demonstration hours later in which protesters — some of them members of the campus Republicans group — held up a whiteboard displaying Cox’s controversial comments and signs saying, “Hold teachers accountable again” and “Teach, don’t preach,” the paper reported. Using a computer on hand, the students also played Cox’s recording on loop, the Orange County Register reported.
Shawn Steel, the Republican national committeeman from California and an attorney who is representing Orange Coast College Republicans, brought the matter to the administration’s attention late November. This was a week before the video was released.
Steel asked for Cox to apologize. However, that request has now changed & he requests the teacher be terminated.
Students at the college started a petition asking the administration to fire the professor for her vicious rant.
“We started the petition…so [campus administration] would understand that we the students, community members, and taxpayers do not support the continued employment of Olga Perez Stable Cox,” added Orange Coast College Republicans President Joshua Recalde-Martinez, telling Campus Reform that “We hope that the petition will gather enough signatures to build an even stronger case for Professor Cox’s removal.”
An investigation is underway. The college president said teachers need to stick to the syllabus and work in the best interest of the students.
Additionally, the college president stated the anonymous student behind the video could also face action because recording in a classroom violate the state educational code and district policy.
Colleges in other cities forbid professors from expressing political beliefs, such as the Community College of Philadelphia. Professors are instructed not to stir up controversy and in no way attempt to dictate the political beliefs of a student.
