NETHER PROVIDENCE, Pa. (YC) – While millions watched the long-awaited solar eclipse, a bizarre murder-suicide surprised residents in a quiet Delaware County township.

A father gunned down his daughter before shooting himself Monday in the parking lot of a funeral home on the 900 block of South Providence Road in the Wallingford section of Nether Providence.

Nicole C. Katerynczuk died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds and Walter Katerynczuk died of a single perforating gunshot wound of the chest.

Nicole, 40-years-old & her 64-year-old father resided together in Chester.

According to Nether Providence Police Chief David Splain, a note was found in the residence which corroborated the findings of the medical examiner.

The death has been ruled a murder-suicide.

“The cause is listed as a murder-suicide and the case has been cleared. It was cleared by the death of the offender,” the chief said.

The relatives had no association with the funeral home.
