Miami-Dade Police Officer Shot in Walmart Parking Lot

(NBC) — A Miami-Dade Police officer was rushed to the hospital after he was shot in northwest Miami-Dade Wednesday, officials said.

The shooting was reported in the parking lot of a Walmart near the area of 32nd Avenue and Northwest 79th Street.

Miami-Dade Police officials said the officer was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

His condition was unknown.

A suspect was also reportedly shot and killed at the scene. Footage showed what appeared to be a body under a yellow tarp between two cars.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said they also responded to the scene.

Authorities had closed down a section of Interstate 95 southbound so the officer could be taken to a nearby hospital.

No other information was immediately known.
