PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (YC) — Bill Cosby made an unexpected appearance in Philadelphia Wednesday night when he joined some childhood friends at Old City’s Ristorante La Veranda.

As the entertainer made his way to the table, others nearby recognized him immediately.

“You were the funniest man in the world,” the man told Cosby. “And you still might be.”

Cosby, along with his team, reporters and guests all laughed.

“You’re from where?” Cosby asked the man, who was at a dinner table with three others.

    “Port Richmond, Kensington!” He replied.

Cosby himself told us he first dined there years ago with former Temple University President Peter Liacouras.

He was joined by Ed Ford, a childhood friend, who also attended and supported him throughout his trial last summer.

A few tables away, a group of men quickly changed their dinner conversion to topic of Cosby, reminiscing over the past and the laughter Cosby brought them and their families growing up.

Just before he left, one table came and asked for a photo with the icon – he happily agreed and told a few jokes for the fans.

The staff at the restaurant also posed for a photo before Cosby returned to his car.

“What brings you to town today?” A reporter asked Cosby following the dinner.

“My hometown – I have a home here,” Bill replied.

Right before his car pulled up, the final question finally came out .. “How are you feeling about your upcoming trial?”

Cosby’s reply, short and to the point. “We’re ready.”
