Couple shot by men in masks after attempted robbery in Chester City

Police in Delaware County are investigating a shooting that sent a couple to the hospital Thursday overnight.

The incident happened just before 2:00 a.m. when Chester City Police responded to the area of E 25th St & Providence Avenue for the report of a shooting.

While police were responding, additional information was received that the victims were not familiar with the area so they fled to the Lukeoil gas station located at Bullens Lane & MacDade Blvd in Ridley Township.

The victims told detectives that they were in their vehicle on the 200 block of 24th Street when 3 black males with masks starting approaching them.

The couple then sped off and the men opened fire, striking both the driver and the passenger.

The vehicle was struck on both sides and one victim, identified as Leah Elliott, was struck in her foot.

The other victim, who was identified as Dawayne Jackson was struck twice in the upper part of his right arm.

Both victims were transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center where they received further treatment.

Both victims were listed in good condition.
