A magnitude 5.0 quake hit Greece this morning just as neighboring islands are reeling from a series of major quakes this week.
The quake occurred just before 3 a.m. local time Saturday, 44 kilometers (27 miles) southeast of the town of Sami in the Cephalonia region, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles), according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The town is located on the central east coast of the island, and has a land area of 129.326 km².[3] Its population was 2,341 at the 2011 census
It wasn’t immediately known if the tremors caused major damage or injuries.
This is a developing story.
