There are ten times more coronavirus patients in Italy than official figures show, according to Italian Civil Protection Chief Angelo Borrelli, who spoke to La Repubblica Tuesday morning.
Borelli, who also heads the coronavirus emergency response, stated that “the epidemic is faster than our bureaucracy.”
As of Monday morning, Italy had 63,927 COVID-19 cases and 6,077 deaths from the virus, according to official data. However, photographs emerging from Italy, which has one of Europe’s oldest populations, showed coffins piling up and obituary pages in some towns increasing from just two pages in early March to over 10 pages last week.
