Tribune Publishing said on Wednesday that The Daily News, once the largest-circulation newspaper in the country, was permanently closing its newsroom, Your Content has learned.
The newsroom, headquartered at 4 New York Plaza in Lower Manhattan, closed Wednesday.
“With no clear path forward in terms of returning to work, and as the company evaluates its real estate needs in light of health and economic conditions brought about by the pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close the office,” Max Reinsdorf, a spokesman for Tribune Publishing, told the New York Times.
The paper will continue to be published. The company made no promises about a future physical location. “As we progress through the pandemic and as needs change, we will reconsider our need for physical offices,” Mr. Reinsdorf said. “We will keep employees informed of decisions as they are made.”
