Carbon, Texas, and its surrounding areas have been engulfed by a series of devastating wildfires that commenced late last week, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake, Your Content has learned.
The most severe of the blazes, known as the Eastland Complex Fire, has obliterated a vast majority of the small town, reducing it to ashes and decimating a total of 86 homes.
Over the course of the weekend, the four fires have relentlessly scorched an estimated 54,000 acres, with containment efforts currently standing at a mere 30%, as reported by the Texas A&M Forest Service.
Tragically, the destructive power of these fires claimed the life of Sgt. Deputy Barbara Fenley from the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office, who heroically assisted residents in their escape from the raging inferno.
The scale of the disaster prompted Governor Greg Abbott to declare a state of emergency on Friday, acknowledging the dire situation faced by the 11 counties hit hardest by the wildfires.
Preliminary assessments have confirmed that a minimum of 50 additional homes have succumbed to the relentless flames, further intensifying the profound impact on the affected communities, according to NBC News.
