In a scathing critique of the Biden administration’s diplomatic efforts, Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas compared their attempts to reestablish contacts with China to the behavior of “lovestruck teenagers.” The senator, known for his hawkish stance on China, expressed his disdain during an appearance on ‘Fox News Sunday, Your Content has learned.
The criticism comes in the wake of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s meeting with his Chinese counterpart in Singapore, where the two exchanged pleasantries. However, the White House has been cautious not to portray this as a significant thaw in relations, especially after Secretary of State Antony Blinken canceled his planned trip to Beijing earlier this year following the controversy surrounding a Chinese spy balloon.
Senator Cotton voiced his frustration, stating, “Biden administration officials should stop chasing after their Chinese communist counterparts like lovestruck teenagers. It’s embarrassing and it’s pathetic.”
The Pentagon, on the other hand, emphasized that their efforts were aimed at establishing “military-to-military communication” to prevent potential mishaps and escalations. The administration has not indicated any significant progress in the relationship.
Recently, the US military shared a video highlighting a risky maneuver by a Chinese navy ship in the Taiwan Strait. The ship forced an American destroyer to alter its course to avoid a collision, coming within 150 yards of the vessel. This incident occurred during a joint US-Canadian ‘freedom of navigation’ operation.
As of now, President Biden is looking forward to speaking with President Xi, as they have engaged in multiple conversations over the past two years. The administration, however, has refrained from labeling these developments as a thaw in relations, according to DailyMail.
