On June 17 at approximately 9:36 a.m., Delaware State Police responded to a trespassing report at Grotto Pizza located on 17467 Shady Road in Lewes.
Despite the establishment being closed at the time, preparations were underway to open for the day.
Upon arrival, troopers discovered a man, identified as 38-year-old Jacob Capozio from Lewes, sitting on the ground within a fenced area behind the business.
In an effort to rouse Capozio, who appeared to be sleeping, the troopers announced their presence. Subsequently, Capozio woke up following another announcement by the troopers.
Notably, he was found wearing a Grotto Pizza employee shirt that had been taken from the store’s inventory, despite not being an employee of the establishment.
After reviewing video surveillance footage, authorities determined that Capozio had entered the store and made off with merchandise valued at less than $1500.
Capozio was taken into custody without resistance and later transported to Troop 7. He now faces multiple charges, including Burglary Third Degree (Felony), Theft Under $1500, and Criminal Trespass Third Degree.
Capozio was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #3 and subsequently remanded to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a secured bond of $4200, according CBS.
