Efforts to locate British actor Julian Sands, who disappeared while hiking in the San Gabriel mountains northeast of Los Angeles in January, are still underway in California, Your Content has learned.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced in a recent news release that the search for Sands resumed on Saturday but unfortunately, he has yet to be found.
The search operation involved over 80 dedicated volunteers, deputies, and staff members, who were supported by two helicopters and drone teams.
They scoured remote areas across Mount Baldy and conducted aerial assessments in their determined efforts to locate Sands. The Sheriff’s Department shared videos of the helicopters and air support in action on their official Twitter page.
Despite the recent warmer weather, officials revealed that certain portions of the mountain remained inaccessible due to treacherous alpine conditions, including areas covered in more than 10 feet of ice and snow.
These extreme weather conditions have posed ongoing challenges for the search and rescue teams.
Earlier in January, search efforts had to be temporarily suspended due to severe weather conditions and the threat of avalanches.
Cell phone pings from January 15 led authorities to believe that Sands, a longtime resident of the Los Angeles area, went missing in the vicinity of Mt. Baldy.
The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department has dedicated significant resources to finding Sands, conducting a total of eight ground and air searches specifically tailored to his case.
Volunteer searchers have contributed over 500 hours of their time in the extensive search operations.
Julian Sands, 65, is widely recognized for his notable roles in popular shows such as “24” and acclaimed movies like “A Room with a View” and “Arachnophobia.” His filmography also includes notable works such as “The Killing Fields” and “Leaving Las Vegas,” as well as a role in the TV series “Smallville.”
Most recently, he appeared in a recurring role in the Netflix series “What/If.”
The search for Julian Sands continues as authorities remain determined to bring him home safely, despite the challenging mountain conditions and the passage of time, according to CNN.
