A grocery store worker at King Soopers in Colorado was terminated after capturing footage of brazen shoplifters stealing over $500 worth of detergent, Your Content has learned.
Santino Burrola, the employee in question, recorded a now-viral video of the incident, which took place on June 18.
He pursued the thieves outside the store, documenting their act as they unloaded numerous cartons into their vehicle and even removing a license plate cover for identification purposes.
Despite Burrola’s intentions to expose the criminals, his actions were deemed a violation of the store’s policy on confronting shoplifters.
Consequently, he was immediately fired following a meeting with his union representative.
Expressing his discontent, Burrola asserts, “All I did was just record criminals and reveal them,” suggesting unfair treatment by the company.
Following the employee’s social media post of the video, it quickly gained attention and was even shared by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, aiding their ongoing investigation into the crime.
Burrola explained that his instinct was to document the thieves as they made off with a substantial amount of laundry detergent.
Throughout the video, he can be heard questioning the audacity of their actions, expressing surprise that such drastic measures were necessary in the current economy.
As the culprits attempted to flee, Burrola continued to record, prompting him to remove a tin foil cover to expose their license plate.
However, King Soopers viewed his actions as a breach of their policy, leading to his termination.
Burrola maintains his stance, stating, “I would never let any criminal conduct slide, especially when it’s happening right in front of me.”
It is worth noting that two of the three shoplifters involved in the incident are still at large, according to DailyMail.
