Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Police Chief James Hawkins have released a statement detailing the events.

At approximately 5:10 a.m., officers from the Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Whitemarsh Court following a 911 call. The caller reported a suspected break-in at her apartment.

Upon arrival, the officers were compelled to force entry into the apartment.

The man was conscious upon the officers’ arrival and was immediately transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The initial findings of the investigation suggest that the man shot the woman and the dog before turning the gun on himself. However, the investigation is still active and ongoing.
