Philadelphia, PA (YC) – A man is in critical condition after running over a Philadelphia Police Officer Wednesday night.
Police told YC two plain clothes officers spotted a car suspected to be connected to a homicide that occurred back on December 21 on the 1800 block of East Atlantic Avenue.
Officers attempted to stop the car at 16th and Nedro Streets. The driver pulled over, but as officers approached the suspect allegedly ran down one of the officers as he attempted to drive away.
Police say the suspect struck two parked vehicles, then exited the car with his hands in his pockets and gestured to officers as if he was going to point something at them.
Authorities say that’s when one of the officers fired his weapon, striking the suspect in the head.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The wounded officer was also taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Police say it’s unclear if the man shot was involved in the earlier homicide.
