Robert Griffiths, the principal of an Ohio high school, has resigned following allegations of sexual harassment and a related Title IX investigation.
Griffiths has served as principal for six years and has been with the district for 22 years. The allegations stem from a sexual harassment complaint filed by a school employee, with the misconduct dating back to July 2022.
Griffiths is accused of making disparaging comments and derogatory terms towards a female employee, including mocking the district’s efforts to establish a Women’s Leadership program.
Griffiths was placed on administrative leave in October and has now resigned. The Olentangy Local Schools District Board of Education plans to accept his resignation at their December 12 meeting. Director of Secondary Schools, Mr. Trond Smith, will continue as the lead administrator, with plans to hire an interim principal for the remainder of the school year.
The district emphasized its commitment to a professional environment conducive to staff flourishing, maintaining positive relationships, and focusing on student learning. The district assured a fair and impartial investigation into staff misconduct allegations while prioritizing minimal impact on students, families, and staff.
The resignation and ongoing investigation highlight the importance of addressing sexual harassment allegations seriously, particularly in educational settings. The district’s response underlines its dedication to maintaining a safe and professional environment for both staff and students.
