New York City Mayor Eric Adams made an announcement on Tuesday, revealing his intention to lift the school mask mandate for children under the age of five starting April 4, pending a continued decline in COVID cases, Your Content has learned.

This decision follows just three days after NYC’s newly appointed health commissioner, Dr. Ashwin Vasan, stated that young children would be required to wear masks indefinitely.

Mayor Eric Adams expressed his plans to lift the mask mandate for children under the age of five, provided the city’s COVID cases continue to decrease.

This decision aligns with the state’s previous action of lifting school mask requirements on March 2.

However, it is important to note that the city’s mask mandate exemption for children under the age of five was already implemented on March 7.

During his announcement, Mayor Adams humorously remarked that the controversy surrounding the health commissioner’s suggestion to mask children indefinitely gained more media attention than his own efforts, according to CBS News.
