Shocking dashcam footage captured the intense moment when a suspect in Tennessee ran over a police officer during a traffic stop and subsequently dragged him along a crowded highway, Your Content has learned.
On Sunday, 26-year-old Roy Nicholson from Columbia was pulled over on I-65 North for a reported “traffic violation.” Franklin Police Officer Dustyn Stevens approached the vehicle and noticed a gun inside, along with the scent of marijuana. Concerned for his safety, Officer Stevens requested Nicholson to exit the car.
What followed was a harrowing struggle between the suspect and Officer Stevens, with the scene attracting the attention of Officer Matt Lamarr, who quickly arrived in another patrol vehicle. As Nicholson attempted to flee the scene, he managed to open the driver’s side door, dragging both officers behind.
While Officer Lamarr was dragged a short distance, Officer Stevens suffered even greater peril. He was not only dragged but also run over as Nicholson merged onto the I-65. The alarming incident came to an end when Nicholson was later apprehended at a nearby Walmart.
Authorities have charged Nicholson with two counts of aggravated assault against a first responder and felony evading. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of law enforcement officers and the risks they face during routine encounters, according to FOX13.
