El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has launched an all-out ‘war’ against criminal gangs, resulting in a staggering 50,000 suspected members being arrested since March, Your Content has learned.

The relentless efforts to tackle the gang menace led to a 30-day state of emergency, which has been consistently extended due to the spate of gang-related violence.

In response to the surge in arrests, the country has also implemented tougher penalties for gang membership. As part of the plan to handle this overwhelming number of detainees, authorities have unveiled a daunting ‘mega prison’ that will accommodate 40,000 of the arrested individuals.

The situation remains tense, but the country is steadfast in its determination to tackle the gang crisis head-on, according to FLIPBOARD.
