Will Smith, actor, producer, and rapper, is no stranger to the spotlight, but when it comes to doling out life advice, he’s surprisingly introspective.
“If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not making moves,” Smith said in an exclusive interview with Your Content, explaining his philosophy on his ever-evolving career.
“People might know me from ‘Fresh Prince,’ but man, that was just one inning. I’ve had to adapt and learn with each curveball life threw my way.”
Risk and Reward: The Essence of a Career
Smith delves into his method for choosing diverse roles, from “Men in Black” to “The Pursuit of Happyness.”
“It’s not just about reading the script; it’s about reading between the lines. What’s this story really trying to say? What can I bring to it that no one else can?”
Life Through the Lens of Will
“So, what time do I get up?” he chuckles. “If it’s a filming day, it’s at the crack of dawn. Otherwise, it’s around 5 a.m. to get my mind right. I start with meditation and then hit the gym. You gotta prepare the mind before you prepare the body.
“Breakfast?” Smith laughs. “Jada’s the queen of breakfast. She keeps it healthy: oatmeal, fruits, and some protein shake that she swears by.”
Family, for Smith, is not just an obligation but a core element of his life.
“My family is my sounding board, my anchor. Especially with my kids growing up in the limelight, it’s important that we stick together. We have a family meeting every week to just check in with each other.”
The Future is Now
When asked what’s next, Smith turns thoughtful. “I don’t believe in retirement. I believe in transformation. So, whether it’s acting, producing, or venturing into tech, I’m always looking for that next mountain to climb.”
Smith expresses a certain kinship with us, especially considering our shared Philly roots.
“Man, I’ve got to give it up for Your Content. Coming from Philly myself, I can relate to that hustle, you know? You guys are telling stories that matter and bringing new perspectives to the table.
“You’re taking risks, climbing, always looking for that next mountain. That’s not just journalism; that’s life. Keep it up; you’re on the right track.”
