Your Content obtained recently released reports, one relating to the original missing person case of Rudy Farias and a second detailing a series of police visits to the home of his mother, Janie Santana.
Farias, now 25, was supposedly missing since the age of 17. His unexpected reappearance on June 29th, 2023, bruised and battered outside a local church, was initially celebrated as a miraculous return.
The first report, a missing person notice dated March 7, 2015, revealed that Santana had contacted the police when her son failed to return from a walk with his dogs.
“On March 7, 2015, Officer Pulido and Officer Huckabee spoke to a walk in at the Northeast Station about the complainant’s son who she wished to report as a possible runaway/missing person,” the report reads. The report indicates Farias was believed to be a ‘possible suicidal male.’
A second document detailed two further police visits to Santana’s residence. On February 12, 2016, the police were called in response to a suspicious vehicle parked near the property. The third visit, on January 6, 2022, was more troubling. The officers were responding to a call from Santana reporting “threats to life by phone.”
“[Janie] continued to deceive police by remaining adamant that Rudy was still missing,” Houston Police Lt. Detective Christopher Zamora Christopher Zamora previously said at a news conference.
“Rudy was not missing during the eight-year period,” Zamora added, Time reported. “Farias and his mother had spoken to officers multiple times during the past eight years, but had given authorities false information, including fake names and dates of birth,” Zamora concluded.
Local residents questioned the authenticity of Farias’ disappearance. Kisha Ross, a neighbor and one of several who claimed to have seen Farias regularly during his alleged period of absence, said, “That boy has never been missing. He used to come in my garage, chill with my cousin, son, and daughter.” Ross told ABC 7.
The Houston Police Department declined to file charges against Santana at this time. However, the case remains under investigation.
